Both lanes of Alabama Highway 51 near Torbert Lake Road are currently blocked following a commercial vehicle crash and fire Friday afternoon.
According to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, the single-vehicle crash involving a commercial vehicle occurred at approximately 3:28 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2. The crash happened near the 96-mile marker on Alabama 51 in Russell County.
ALEA initially reported the southbound lane was closed. Both lanes are now blocked and are expected to remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.
Multiple volunteer fire departments responded to the scene. Hatchachubbee Volunteer Fire Department responded with one apparatus and four personnel, while Dixie Volunteer Fire Department responded with one apparatus and two personnel. Beauregard Volunteer Fire Department also responded with two apparatus and approximately four personnel.
Drivers are urged to use caution in the area and avoid Alabama 51 near Torbert Lake Road if possible while emergency crews remain on scene.
