Opelika man killed in Chambers County shooting; suspect charged with murder

A 35-year-old Opelika man is dead following a shooting Friday afternoon in Chambers County, according to the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched around 1:48 p.m. Friday, October 2, to the 1000 block of County Road 26 in reference to a reported shooting.

When deputies arrived, they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound and unresponsive. The victim was transported to East Alabama Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The deceased was identified as Douglas Quentez Griffin, 35, of Opelika.

A short time later, deputies located and took the suspect into custody nearby.

Investigators arrested Queston Vantavis Perry, 40, of Opelika, and charged him with Murder.
Perry is being held at the Chambers County Detention Facility without bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Chambers County Sheriff’s Office and the Fifth Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office.
