East Alabama Health is offering two “Free Mammogram Days” this month to help medically uninsured women access breast cancer screenings and emphasize the importance of early detection.

The free screenings are intended to remove cost as a barrier for women who may otherwise delay or skip recommended mammograms.

“The most important thing for women, as far as breast health goes, is early diagnosis,” said Lauren Thorington, D.O., a breast radiologist at the Breast Health Center. “An annual mammogram is one of the most powerful tools we have to safeguard our health.”

The free mammograms will be offered at:
Friday, Oct. 23: EAMC-Lanier Rural Emergency Hospital in Valley, Alabama
Friday, Oct. 30: Breast Health Center in Auburn, Alabama

To qualify, women must be medically uninsured, 40 years or older and have not had a mammogram within the past 12 months.

Appointments are required, and available slots are limited. Appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

This marks the second year East Alabama Health has offered “Free Mammogram Days” to community members. The program is supported by the EAMC Foundation’s Breast Health Fund, which helps provide lifesaving breast cancer screenings to medically uninsured women throughout the year.
