CNAW Newsroom —
14-year-old arrested for Terroristic Threat leading to Opelika High School lockdown

A 14-year-old is facing serious charges after making a threat to Opelika High School causing a lockdown.

Earlier this week, on October 22, 2024, a lockdown was imposed at Opelika High School after someone called in a threat that they were on their way to shoot us the school.

Opelika Police Detectives, with assistance from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), were able to trace the phone to a residence in Montgomery. Detectives and members of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) executed a search warrant at the juvenile’s residence where they recovered the cell phone in the teen’s possession.

A 14-year-old juvenile from Montgomery, AL, was arrested by Opelika Police for Making a Terroristic Threat.

The juvenile was arrested and transported to Opelika where they are currently incarcerated at the Lee County Youth Development Center. “The initial investigation indicates that there was no plan to carry out the threat,” police said. “Detectives are continuing to investigate the juvenile’s connection to Opelika.”
