CNAW Newsroom —
15-year-old arrested after threat made to Opelika High which caused lockdown

Opelika detectives have made an arrest involving a threatening phone call which was called into Opelika High School causing a multi-hour lockdown.

The lockdown, which kept all students and staff safe inside, began when the school received the call around 8 AM. After an initial investigation by law enforcement, the lockdown was lifted at 11:30 AM.

Around 8 PM – nearly 12 hours after the initial call was made – detectives arrested a 15-year-old juvenile for the terrorist threat. “The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to the Lee County Youth Development Center where they remain in juvenile detention,” police said in the updated release. “This incident remains under investigation by the Opelika Police Department.”
