Two people have been arrested and a stolen classic car has been recovered following a months-long investigation from Columbus to Marietta.

The investigation began after a victim reported their 1973 Nissan Datsun 240SX, that belonged to his late father, was stolen from a home on 17th Avenue on July 23, 2025.

Investigators identified Ashley Herring and David Parr as suspects. Herring was first arrested on July 24. A search of her phone revealed that she and Parr had sold the vehicle in Marietta using a forged Bill of Sale and the identity of Herring’s deceased mother. Ten days later, officers recovered the vehicle.

Herring bonded out shortly after her initial arrest, but additional charges were obtained for both suspects. On August 6, Herring and Parr were arrested again and booked into the Muscogee County Jail. A Recorder’s Court hearing on August 13 found probable cause, and the case has been bound over to Superior Court.

Herring had previously been arrested for selling items on Facebook Marketplace that did not belong to her. Investigators believe the stolen vehicle may have been targeted in a similar way.

“The Columbus Police Department reminds the community to use caution when buying or selling items through online platforms such as Facebook Marketplace,” the department said. “Always verify ownership before completing a purchase. If something feels suspicious or “too good to be true,” it probably is.”

The department’s Property Crimes Unit remains investigating the incident.
