Columbus Police and the U.S. Postal Service are following up after bulk mail from a nonprofit voter participation organization was found in a dumpster along Norris Road, according to information provided to CNAW2News.com by Nancy Boren, director of Muscogee County Elections and Registrations.

Boren said the Columbus Police Department received a call the morning of October 17 regarding materials found at 2525 Norris Road. The mail was identified as bulk mail from the Voter Participation Center, a nonprofit organization that helps register and mobilize voters.

According to Boren, the materials are not associated with a state or local elections office.

Surveillance images provided by Boren show a white van in the dumpster area on the evening of Thursday, October 15. The images display timestamps of approximately 8:12 p.m. and 8:13 p.m. A separate photograph shows a quantity of envelopes and printed materials inside the dumpster.

Boren said surveillance video documents a person in a USPS van depositing the bulk mail into the dumpster. The Columbus Police Department and USPS are following up on the information.

The circumstances surrounding the disposal of the materials have not been established. The information provided to CNAW2News.com does not indicate that ballots were involved.
