Our automated weather channel is on the air around the clock: the radar, the temperatures, the week ahead — and when a warning hits the Valley, it stays with the storm.
What is the weather for Friday night high school football in the Chattahoochee Valley?
Friday night football across the Valley is dry and mostly cloudy, from 75 degrees at kickoff in Columbus to 67 in Opelika, with Georgia towns like LaGrange and Greenville falling into the low 60s by the fourth quarter.

Pull into a stadium lot anywhere in the Valley on Friday and the first thing you will notice is what is missing. There is no rain in the forecast in any town in the viewing area, the wind is 5 miles an hour or dead calm from Tuskegee to Talbotton, and the sky stays mostly cloudy. Temperatures around kickoff run from 67 to 75 degrees. The only real question is how fast your town cools off after dark.
The coolest start belongs to Opelika, where Beauregard and Opelika play: 67 degrees around kickoff and still 64 by the fourth quarter. That is barely any drop at all, and the reason is moisture. The air in Opelika is running about 70 percent humidity, and damp air holds onto its heat after sunset. Clayton feels much the same for Barbour County, near 69 at the start and 64 late. Remember that Alabama readings are on Central time, so the Alabama fourth quarter arrives an hour behind Georgia's by the clock.
Columbus is the warm end of the map. At Kinnett Stadium and A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, where Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone play, expect 75 degrees around kickoff and 67 by the fourth quarter. It is 75 as well at Chattahoochee County in Cusseta, Marion County in Buena Vista, Schley County in Ellaville, Webster County in Preston and Quitman County in Georgetown, with dry air in the low 50s for humidity.
The fastest fall is in the Georgia towns along and north of the fall line. Around LaGrange, home to LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy, it is 72 at kickoff and 62 late. Callaway in Hogansville goes from 71 to 61, Greenville from 70 to 60, Manchester from 71 to 63, and Harris County in Hamilton from 72 to 64. Lanett and Springwood start warmest in Chambers County at 74 and land at 64. Dry air cools quickly once the sun is gone, so those ten-degree slides are real.
East Alabama holds steadier. Auburn and Lee-Scott go 70 to 65, Central in Phenix City 71 to 66, Smiths Station and Glenwood 70 to 65, Russell County in Seale 70 to 64, and Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee 71 to 65. Valley and Beulah, along with LaFayette and Chambers Academy, start at 68 and settle to 62. Loachapoka and Notasulga barely budge, 69 down to 66. Eufaula goes 70 to 64 with calm air.
What to bring is simple. Leave the umbrella at home; a zero percent rain chance is as clean as this forecast gets. Short sleeves are fine at kickoff in every town. Pack a hoodie or a light jacket for the second half if you are in LaGrange, Hogansville, Greenville or Manchester, where you will be sitting in the low 60s late. In Opelika, Auburn, Loachapoka and Notasulga, you will not need anything extra all night.
The walk back to the car will be the mildest part of the week to come. Clouds thicken Saturday, and the first showers of the new pattern are not far behind.
Around kickoff → by the fourth quarter, on each school’s own clock.
