What to do
Plan ahead
Any address, any day. Up to 9 days out, it’s our forecast. Further out, an extended forecast from 30 years of weather here.
Our automated weather channel is on the air around the clock: the radar, the temperatures, the week ahead — and when a warning hits the Valley, it stays with the storm.
What will the weather be for Friday night high school football in Columbus and Auburn?
Friday night games across the Valley start in the 60s under partly cloudy skies, from 68 in Columbus to 62 in LaFayette and Valley, with almost no wind and only a slight shower chance near Eufaula and Georgetown.

Friday night is shaping up as the kind of evening you remember fondly in January. Partly cloudy skies, temperatures in the 60s at kickoff everywhere in the viewing area, and wind that barely moves a flag. The one thing to plan for is the drop: most towns shed five to seven degrees between kickoff and the fourth quarter, and with humidity near 80 percent, those last two degrees feel sharper on a metal bleacher than they look on paper.
The coolest stands in the area will be in Chambers County. Around LaFayette, home to LaFayette and Chambers Academy, it will be 62 around kickoff and 57 late. Valley and Beulah, over in Valley, land on exactly the same numbers. Just down the road in Lanett, where Lanett and Springwood play, it runs warmer at the start, 66, before settling to 59.
Around Auburn and Opelika, it is a steady, comfortable night. Auburn and Lee-Scott sit at 63 at kickoff and 59 late, and Opelika and Beauregard read the same. Smiths Station and Glenwood start at 63 and ease to 58. Russell County at Seale and Central-Phenix City both begin in the middle 60s and hold near 60 by the end.
Columbus is the warm end of the map. In the stands at Kinnett Stadium and A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, where Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone all take the field at one point or another, expect 68 around kickoff and still 63 in the fourth quarter. Chattahoochee County in Cusseta, Marion County in Buena Vista, Stewart County in Lumpkin, Schley County in Ellaville and Webster County in Preston all open near 68 as well.
The biggest swing is north. Around LaGrange, where LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy play, it starts at 65 and falls to 58, with the air essentially still. Callaway, over in Hogansville, matches that exactly. Greenville has the coolest finish on the Georgia side, 63 at kickoff and 57 late. Harris County in Hamilton holds a little warmer, 66 down to 61, and Manchester runs 66 to 60.
Rain is close to an afterthought. The highest chance anywhere is 15 percent at Quitman County in Georgetown, with 12 percent at Eufaula and 11 percent around Clayton, where Barbour County plays, and at Randolph Clay in Cuthbert, Taylor County in Butler and Manchester. That is enough for a stray shower, not enough to change plans. Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee, Loachapoka and Notasulga all sit near 64 at kickoff with a 6 percent chance of rain, which is as close to a guarantee as November gets.
What to bring: short sleeves are fine when you walk in, a hoodie or light jacket is worth having on the bleacher next to you, and an umbrella only if you are headed to Eufaula or Georgetown and want the insurance. No wind means no hats blowing off and no flags standing out straight.
Enjoy the mild one. By Sunday morning, Columbus is forecast to start the day at 45.
