BUS STOP FORECAST

Monday Bus Stop Forecast: Light Jackets From LaGrange to Eufaula

How cold will it be Monday morning at the bus stop in Columbus and LaGrange?

Monday at 7 AM runs 58 degrees in Columbus and 53 in LaGrange, with every town in the viewing area between 52 and 59 and only a 2 percent rain chance.

Monday morning is a jacket morning across the whole viewing area, and barely anything more than that. If you are standing at a bus stop at 7 AM, every town from Hogansville down to Eufaula comes in between 52 and 59 degrees, and the rain chance at every one of those stops is 2 percent. The sun is coming up right around 7 o'clock now, so the first part of the wait happens in half-light.

The cold end of the map is the northern tier. Hogansville, home of Callaway, and Greenville both start at 52. LaGrange — LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy — is 53 under a mostly sunny sky, and those two towns also get the brightest start of anywhere in the area. Manchester is 54, and Talbotton, home of Central-Talbotton, is 55.

Across the Alabama line, the Chambers County stops bunch together at 56: LaFayette and Chambers Academy in LaFayette, Valley and Beulah in Valley, Lanett and Springwood in Lanett. Butler, home of Taylor County, is 56 as well.

The warm end follows the river south. Phenix City, home of Central-Phenix City, starts at 59, and so do Eufaula and Clayton, home of Barbour County. Columbus is right behind at 58, which covers Hardaway, Shaw, Jordan, Carver, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Northside, Brookstone, Pacelli and Calvary Christian. Also at 58: Auburn and Lee-Scott in Auburn, Opelika and Beauregard in Opelika, Smiths Station and Glenwood in Smiths Station, Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee, Russell County in Seale, and the stops at Loachapoka and Notasulga.

The number that matters more than the thermometer is the wind. An east breeze around 15 mph is in the forecast for Columbus and Phenix City, for Smiths Station, for Hamilton and Buena Vista where Harris County and Marion County are, and for Cuthbert and Lumpkin, home to Randolph Clay and Stewart County. A steady breeze makes 58 degrees feel colder than 58 does on a still morning, so those are the stops where a hood earns its keep. Everywhere else the wind runs closer to 10 mph.

Sky cover splits the area roughly in half. The southern towns — Buena Vista, Ellaville, Preston, Cuthbert, Lumpkin and Clayton, home to Marion County, Schley County, Webster County, Randolph Clay, Stewart County and Barbour County — stay mostly cloudy at that hour, while LaGrange, Hogansville and most of the Chattahoochee Valley get partial sun early.

A light jacket or a hoodie covers it. No umbrella, no gloves, nothing heavier. And it will come off fast, because Columbus climbs to 79 Monday afternoon — whatever goes out the door at 7 is getting carried home by the afternoon.

It is a one-morning item, too. Tuesday morning bottoms out near 64 in Columbus, a good six degrees warmer than the Monday start, so the jacket can go back on the hook by Tuesday.
