How warm will it get in Columbus GA this weekend and when does it cool down?
Columbus reaches about 81 degrees Friday and 79 on Saturday, then cooler air drops Sunday's high to 73 with a slight shower chance.

The thermometer at Columbus Airport reached 80 degrees at 3:29 Thursday afternoon, 6 degrees above the normal high of 74 for the date, and the air never slipped below 59 overnight, which is 8 degrees above a normal low of 51. Friday afternoon climbs a notch higher, to about 81. For perspective, the record for October 30 in Columbus is 85, set in 2016, so this warm day stays short of that one calendar date's mark.
The reason is a ridge of high pressure aloft and unusually dry air beneath it. Forecasters at the National Weather Service in Peachtree City note there is less moisture in the entire depth of the atmosphere over us than would fill a single inch of rain gauge if you wrung it out. Dry air heats up quickly, which is how late October afternoons end up near 80 from Phenix City to Buena Vista.
They also call Friday the last warm day of this pattern. By Saturday, strong high pressure centered over the mid-Atlantic states pushes a shallow layer of cooler air southwest along the eastern side of the Appalachians and turns our wind to the northeast. Clouds thicken over Columbus, LaGrange and Hamilton, and the high still reaches 79, but the sunshine is gone. Sunday is when that cooler air wins out: a high near 73, with a slight shower chance around 18 percent that forecasters expect to favor the far western Georgia counties early in the day.
Then it warms again, 78 Monday and 80 Tuesday, with the best rain chance of the week, 46 percent, arriving Wednesday. Columbus has already picked up 3.30 inches this month against a normal of 2.61, and 43.60 inches since January 1 against a normal of 39.98.
If you have yard work or a coat of paint waiting, the dry window runs from now through Sunday afternoon.
