What is the weekend weather forecast for Lake Harding, West Point Lake and Lake Eufaula?
Saturday is the calmer, drier day on all three lakes, with Lake Eufaula reaching 78 degrees in the afternoon, while Sunday brings 10 mile an hour winds and shower chances near 20 percent.

If you only get one day on the water this weekend, make it Saturday. At 8 in the morning the wind is 5 miles an hour at all three lakes, the rain chance is zero at Lake Harding and West Point Lake, and the afternoon warms into the 70s. Sunday is not bad, but it starts with twice the wind and a one-in-five shower chance.
At Lake Harding, the Chattahoochee reservoir north of Columbus on the Georgia-Alabama line, Saturday opens at 61 degrees under mostly cloudy skies with that 5 mile an hour breeze. Stand on a dock at that hour and the water will look like glass. By 2 in the afternoon it is 74 with the wind up to 10 miles an hour and still no rain in the forecast. Sunday morning is 60 degrees with a 10 mile an hour wind and a 20 percent shower chance, and the afternoon tops out at 69.
West Point Lake, between LaGrange and West Point, has the coolest starts of the three. Saturday at 8 it is 58 degrees and nearly calm, climbing to 72 by midafternoon with a 10 mile an hour wind. Sunday begins at 57 with the highest rain odds on the board, 23 percent, easing to 16 percent by 2 in the afternoon when it is 66. That is a morning for a thermos.
Lake Eufaula is the warm end of the viewing area, as it usually is. Saturday is 62 at 8 in the morning and a genuinely warm 78 by 2, with the wind at 10 miles an hour and a small 13 percent shower chance. Sunday holds up better here than anywhere else: 63 at 8, 73 by midafternoon, with rain chances near 20 percent.
The useful detail for anyone in a small boat is that the wind never gets past 10 miles an hour at any of the three lakes at any of those hours. Rough water generally starts around 15 miles an hour, so the ride should stay comfortable both days. The weekend's limiting factor is clouds and a passing shower, not chop.
The rivers feeding these lakes are running close to where they should be for late October. Over the seven days ending October 29, the Chattahoochee River in Columbus averaged 2,733 cubic feet per second, about 96 percent of normal for those dates, and at West Point it averaged 2,810, about 102 percent. Below Lake Eufaula, near Columbia, Alabama, the week averaged 5,466, on the higher side of normal. These are week-long averages on purpose, because the dams release water in pulses and any single reading swings wildly. The one gauge running light is Upatoi Creek near Columbus, averaging 125 cubic feet per second against a normal of 154.
Dress in layers. A fleece or light jacket will earn its keep at 8 in the morning at West Point Lake, and you will want it off by lunch. Pack a rain shell for Sunday rather than an umbrella, since a 10 mile an hour wind will fight you for it.
One more thing worth planning around: daylight is down to 10 hours and 56 minutes and shrinking by about two minutes a day, with the sun setting at 6:50 in Columbus. Load the trailer earlier than feels necessary.
Each day, 8 AM → 2 PM.
