What will the weather be like at Callaway Gardens and Providence Canyon this weekend?
Both days are dry, with Callaway Gardens near Pine Mountain going from 47 degrees Saturday morning to 66 in the afternoon and Providence Canyon near Lumpkin reaching 71 under full sun on Sunday.

If you only get outside once this weekend, make it Sunday. Both days are rain-free at every park in the area, but Saturday afternoon turns cloudy in places and carries a light breeze, while Sunday is sunny from sunrise on with the wind essentially gone and afternoon temperatures a few degrees higher. The catch is the start: Sunday mornings begin colder than Saturday's, by four or five degrees nearly everywhere.
On the Chattahoochee RiverWalk between Columbus and Phenix City, Saturday starts at 51 degrees under mostly sunny skies with a 5 mph breeze, then warms to 68 by 2 PM with clouds moving in overhead. Sunday opens at 46 and sunny and reaches 71 in the afternoon with calm air and a clear sky. For a walk along the river, the Sunday afternoon numbers are about as good as November gets here.
Up on Pine Mountain the mornings bite a little harder. Callaway Gardens starts Saturday at 47 degrees with a 10 mph wind, which will feel colder than the number suggests, and climbs to 66 by 2 PM. Sunday there begins at 43 and finishes at 69 in full sun. F.D. Roosevelt State Park, along the ridge toward Warm Springs, runs a degree behind: 47 and breezy at 8 AM Saturday, 65 in the afternoon, then 43 Sunday morning and 68 by 2 PM. That is a 25-degree swing in six hours on Sunday, which is the whole argument for layers you can tie around your waist.
Providence Canyon near Lumpkin follows the same pattern as the RiverWalk. Saturday is 50 at 8 AM and 67 by 2 PM, with the sky going mostly cloudy in the afternoon. Sunday is 46 to start and 71 by mid-afternoon under full sun, with the wind calm — worth knowing, because flat light and clear light make a very different canyon.
The two warmest spots are at opposite corners of the map. Chewacla State Park outside Auburn is the mildest morning on the list, 54 degrees at 8 AM Saturday and 52 Sunday, reaching 68 and 72 in the afternoons. Lakepoint State Park at Eufaula matches it: 55 Saturday morning, 50 Sunday morning, with afternoons of 69 and 73. Sunday afternoon at Lakepoint is the warmest figure anywhere in this forecast.
What to wear: a real jacket for anything that starts before about 9 AM, especially on the Pine Mountain ridge, where Saturday's 10 mph breeze does the damage rather than the temperature. By early afternoon a short-sleeve shirt is enough at all six places. Take water even though it is November, because dry air and a 70-degree sun pull more out of you than people expect, and skip the rain gear entirely — the chance is zero at every park both days.
One thing to plan around: the sun sets at 5:44 PM, and we are down to 10 hours and 42 minutes of daylight, losing about a minute and a half more each day. Start the long walk earlier than feels necessary.
Each day, 8 AM → 2 PM.
