CNAW2NEWS.com has confirmed new information through jail records in the case of a missing Columbus man who was found deceased.
53-years-old Victor Allen Chavez allegedly vanished Tuesday morning around 7:00 A.M. on the busy riverwalk near the area of 1000 block of Bay Avenue in downtown Columbus. Investigators were called out and immediately began searching for Chavez. Chavez left behind his wheelchair, which he used often due to several health related issues, his daughter told CNAW in a message late Tuesday night.

Chavez, over 24 hours later, was found by investigators with the police department in a marshy, wooded area near the intersection of 16th Street and 5th Avenue in High Uptown zone of Columbus. Chavez was pronounced deceased at 12:10 P.M. Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Dustin Harrelson and Elizabeth Allison were spotted working the scene, along with crime scene investigators and detectives.

The wife of Chavez, identified as Angela Chavez, was spotted talking to investigators and was taken to police headquarters for questioning. Angela Chavez, 52, was booked into the Muscogee County Jail at 10:29 P.M. — nearly 10 hours later after Victor’s body was found. Chavez is facing three charges so far: false report of a crime, willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer, and crossing state/county guard line with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent. Angela Chavez received a bail amount of $250.00 for both charges, totaling $500.00. If Angela is found guilty on the charge of false report of a crime, she could face up to one year in prison or a $1,000 fine, or both. If Angela Chavez is found guilty on the charge of willful obstruction of a law enforcement officer, she could face up to one year in prison or a $1,000 fine, or both. If Angela Chavez is found guilty on the charge of crossing state/county guard line with weapons, intoxicants, drugs without consent, she could face up to not less than one year nor more than four years in prison.

Victor Chavez was transported to the county morgue and where he will then be transported by coroner officials to the Georgia Bureau of Investigations Medical Examine Lab in Decatur for an autopsy. Muscogee County Coroner Buddy Bryan believes the manner of death is natural and due to a cardiac arrest-drug related.
