Columbus man charged in drive-by shooting investigation; six firearms seized

A Columbus man is facing multiple charges after investigators seized six firearms during a follow-up investigation into a drive-by shooting on North Lumpkin Road.

According to the Columbus Police Department, members of the Violent Crimes Unit visited a residence connected to Corey Anderson on May 28, 2026, as part of an ongoing investigation. Anderson was taken into custody on active probation violation warrants.

Investigators then executed a search warrant at the residence, where they recovered six firearms. Police said one of the firearms had been reported stolen.

As a result of the search, Anderson was initially charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and theft by receiving stolen property involving a firearm.

On June 3, while Anderson remained in custody at the Muscogee County Jail, investigators obtained and served additional warrants related to the North Lumpkin Road shooting. Those charges include drive-by shooting, two counts of aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The Columbus Police Department said the Violent Crimes Unit continues its efforts to reduce violent crime and remove illegally possessed firearms from the community.

The investigation remains ongoing.
