The City of Opelika removed Mallory Hagan hometown signs, according to a report.

Hagan won Miss America in 2013 and received honorary signs across the city shortly thereafter.
The report from The Observer, a local newspaper, confirmed the city removed the signage.
The removal follows a petition from Opelika citizens following comments made by Mallory Hagan on social media in regards to the death of Charlie Kirk.
In a statement, Opelika Mayor Gary Fuller said the city is ‘in the process of a city-wide signage project throughout Opelika in an effort to update and standardize signage across the community.’
“While everyone has the right to free speech, it’s also important to recognize that speech can carry consequences, which is why I asked our city crews to remove the pageant signs late last week,”Mayor Fuller said. “As we move forward, we will be looking at new ways to honor individuals, particularly our veterans, who have sacrificed so much.
Miss America’s CEO Robin Fleming released a statement following Hagan’s comments.
“The Miss America Organization does not condone, endorse, or excuse any celebration of an individual’s death—no matter one’s personal or political views,” Fleming said. “Celebrating the passing of another human being is contrary to the values of compassion, dignity, and respect that Miss America has stood for throughout its history.”
The petition, which received 941 signatures, claimed victory following the removal of the signs.
Residents are expected to see more signage changes in the coming months, according to Mayor Fuller.
