A Lee County Deputy has been shot in the line of duty Wednesday afternoon. A suspect has been shot as well.

The shooting occurred in the 900 block of Lee Road 188, which is located in the Loachapoka community of Lee County. The shooting occurred around 5:30 PM central time on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.
A large law-enforcement presence was seen on the scene, including Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Opelika, Police Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency and the Auburn Police Department.
An escort was seen taking the injured deputy to an area hospital.
This is a developing story.
UPDATE 1: An Auburn police cruiser and a Lee County Sheriff’s Office cruiser crashed at the intersection of Pumphrey Avenue and Shug Jordan Parkway. Both officers are fine, but vehicles are totaled, according to law enforcement sources.

UPDATE 2: Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Bureau of Investigation are on scene and beginning their investigation into this law enforcement involved shooting.
UPDATE 3: This is the scene outside of the Freestanding Emergency Department off of Shug Jordan Parkway after a deputy was shot in Loachapoka. Lifesaver 3 has landed at the scene. I am told the deputy was shot in the arm and taken to this hospital.

At the scene, on Lee Road 188, Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones has just arrived, along with Lee County Coroner Daniel Sexton.
