A woman initially charged in connection with a deadly shooting on Dix Street has been released from custody after investigators uncovered new evidence identifying another suspect as the alleged shooter.
According to the LaGrange Police Department, detectives received additional information on June 2 regarding the ongoing murder investigation into the death of Keontavious Bailey. After reviewing the newly obtained evidence, authorities released Telneschia Jones and dismissed all charges against her.
Investigators said the evidence revealed that Jones was not responsible for the violent act that resulted in Bailey’s death.
During the investigation, detectives also determined that a witness had provided false statements regarding Jones’ involvement. Police said charges related to those false statements will be pursued.
The new evidence identified Randy Orlanda Johnson Jr. as the individual responsible for Bailey’s death. Johnson has since been arrested and charged with Murder.
The investigation stems from a shooting reported around 10:40 p.m. on June 1 in the 300 block of Dix Street. Officers arrived to find Bailey unresponsive in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.
Officers, along with personnel from the LaGrange Fire Department and Troup AMR, immediately began lifesaving measures. Bailey was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
The LaGrange Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and assumed the investigation, which remains ongoing.
