16-year-old student taken into custody after threats at LaGrange Academy

The LaGrange Police Department is investigating after a 16-year-old student allegedly made threats to shoot students and then take their own life at LaGrange Academy Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, officers responded to LaGrange Academy, located at 1501 Vernon Road, at approximately 1:08 p.m. on August 19, 2026, following reports of the threats.

When officers arrived, school administrators had already separated the student from the rest of the student population.

The student was taken into custody, and officers determined the student was not in possession of any weapons. The student was transported to the LaGrange Police Department and was reportedly cooperating with authorities.

Police said the facility has been rendered safe and there is no ongoing threat of violence.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
