A local attorney and former Columbus mayoral candidate was booked into the Muscogee County Jail Thursday on a felony charge of cruelty to children in the first degree.
Christopher Ryan Breault, 44, was booked into the Muscogee County Jail sometime during the late afternoon hours of Thursday, September 24, 2026, according to jail records and law enforcement sources.
Breault was booked on a charge listed as cruelty to children in the first degree, family violence. Under O.C.G.A. § 16-5-70(b), a person commits cruelty to children in the first degree when they maliciously cause a child under the age of 18 cruel or excessive physical or mental pain.
Breault was given a bond of $11,721.25. The circumstances surrounding the charge were not immediately available.
Police confirmed they were the arresting agency and confirmed the charge Breault is facing but did not provide additional details about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
Breault’s current mugshot was not available at the time of publication. CNAW2News is using a previous mugshot from a November 10, 2021, arrest on a contempt of court charge.
Breault was a candidate for mayor of Columbus in 2026, according to Georgia State Ethics Commission campaign records.
