Investigators with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force have arrested a Hogansville man following an investigation into the alleged possession of child pornography.
According to the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, investigators received a “CyberTip” in August containing information and evidence indicating that a Troup County man was possibly in possession of child pornography.
The investigation led investigators to Brenton Purgason, 34, of Hogansville.
Purgason was arrested on September 22, 2026, and charged with Sexual Exploitation of Children – Possession of Child Pornography.
The sheriff’s office said CyberTips are reports containing information that may involve the online exploitation of children. These reports can come from internet service providers, social media platforms and members of the public and are provided to ICAC Task Forces for investigation.
ICAC Task Forces are coalitions of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies that investigate and prosecute individuals suspected of using the internet to criminally exploit children.
The Troup County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and that no further information is available at this time.
