The Auburn Police Department, with assistance from the Opelika Police Department, has arrested a 31-year-old Opelika man in connection with a burglary reported at a local business.
According to Auburn Police, Romen Bentley Cockrell, 31, of Opelika, was arrested on Sept. 22, 2026, and charged with third-degree burglary and fourth-degree theft of property.
The investigation stems from an incident in the 700 block of North Dean Road during the early morning hours of Sept. 20.
Auburn officers responded to an alarm at a local business and discovered damage to the building. Investigators determined that someone had entered the business unlawfully.
Police said a small amount of currency and several nicotine products were reported stolen.
Through the investigation, Cockrell was identified as the suspect. Auburn Police obtained warrants for his arrest, and the Opelika Police Department assisted in taking Cockrell into custody.
Cockrell was transported to the Lee County Jail, where he is being held on a $4,000 bond.
