Our automated weather channel is on the air around the clock: the radar, the temperatures, the week ahead — and when a warning hits the Valley, it stays with the storm.
What will the weather be like for Friday night high school football in the Chattahoochee Valley?
Friday night will be clear, dry and nearly calm across the viewing area, with kickoff temperatures from 61 degrees in LaFayette to 69 in Columbus and fourth quarters in the mid 50s to low 60s.

Friday night across the Valley is as close to settled as November gets. Skies are mostly clear from Tuskegee to Talbotton, the wind is about 5 miles an hour everywhere, and the rain chance is zero or one percent in every town we cover. Around kickoff the numbers run from 61 degrees at the cool end to 69 at the warm end, and two hours later nearly everyone is in the 50s or low 60s. Nobody needs an umbrella and nobody needs to worry about a delay.
The coolest stands will be in LaFayette, where LaFayette and Chambers Academy play: 61 around kickoff and 56 by the fourth quarter. It is nearly the same in Valley, home of Valley and Beulah, at 62 falling to 56, and in Greenville, where it is 63 at the start and 56 late. Those are the three towns where a hoodie stops being optional after halftime.
Columbus sits at the other end. At Kinnett Stadium and A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, and wherever Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone are playing, it will be 69 around kickoff and still 63 in the fourth quarter. Short sleeves will do for the first half. Across the river in Phenix City, where Central plays, it is 65 dropping to 60.
Through Lee and Chambers counties the night lands in the mid 60s. Auburn and Lee-Scott see 64 at kickoff and 59 late, Opelika and Beauregard 63 and 58, Smiths Station and Glenwood 64 and 59, and Lanett and Springwood the warmest in that group at 66 and 59. It is 64 falling to 59 at Loachapoka, Notasulga, and in Tuskegee, where Booker T. Washington plays. At Seale, home of Russell County, kickoff is one of the coolest on the Alabama side at 61, easing only to 58.
Around LaGrange, where LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy play, it is 64 at kickoff and 58 by the fourth quarter, with Callaway in Hogansville a degree cooler late at 57. Manchester sits at 65 and 59, and Harris County in Hamilton at 66 and 60.
The south and east of the area stays mild. It is 69 around kickoff for Chattahoochee County in Cusseta, Marion County in Buena Vista, Webster County in Preston and Schley County in Ellaville, which also holds the warmest fourth quarter at 63. Stewart County in Lumpkin and Taylor County in Butler both start at 68, and Central-Talbotton at 67. Down toward the river the air is damper rather than cooler: Eufaula goes 64 to 58, Barbour County in Clayton 61 to 58 under partly cloudy skies with humidity near 87 percent, Randolph Clay in Cuthbert 66 to 62, and Quitman County in Georgetown 65 to 61. The one percent rain chance there is not worth a raincoat, but late in the game the air will feel clammy on the metal bleachers.
Take a light jacket or a sweatshirt for the second half, a blanket if you sit on aluminum, and leave the umbrella in the truck. One more thing worth knowing: the sun now sets before 6 o'clock and we are losing close to two minutes of daylight a day, so every snap Friday night will be played under the lights.
Around kickoff → by the fourth quarter, on each school’s own clock.
No school or town by that name in the viewing area.
