What is the weather for Friday night high school football in Columbus and Auburn?
Friday night football across the CNAW area is dry and nearly calm, with kickoff temperatures of 65 in Columbus, 61 in Auburn and LaGrange and 59 in LaFayette and Greenville, falling into the mid to upper 50s by the fourth quarter.

Take the jacket, leave the umbrella. Every town in the CNAW viewing area has a rain chance of zero tonight, the wind is 5 miles an hour or less everywhere, and temperatures at kickoff run from 59 in the coolest spots to 65 in the warmest. The difference you will actually notice is not the start of the game but the end of it, when the second half gives back four or five degrees in the northern half of the area.
The coolest stands tonight are in Greenville, where Greenville plays, and in LaFayette, home of LaFayette and Chambers Academy. Both sit at 59 around kickoff and slide to 55 by the fourth quarter. Hogansville, where Callaway plays, is close behind at 60 and 55. In LaGrange, where LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy play, it is 61 around kickoff and 56 late. Humidity in that northern tier runs near 80 percent, and damp air at 55 degrees feels a good bit colder on a metal bench than dry air at 55 does. That is the corner of the area where a hoodie is not optional.
Across the Alabama line, Auburn and Lee-Scott start out at 61 and finish at 58. Opelika, where Beauregard and Opelika play, is 60 at kickoff and holds at 58, one of the smallest drops anywhere tonight. Valley and Beulah sit at 60 and 56, while Lanett and Springwood stay a touch warmer at 63 and 58. Smiths Station and Glenwood see 62 and 59. Loachapoka and Notasulga barely budge, going from 61 to 59, and Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee runs 61 to 58. Remember the clock changes at the state line: those Alabama numbers are on Central time, the Georgia numbers on Eastern.
Columbus is the warm end of the scale. At Kinnett Stadium and A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, where Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone play, it is 65 around kickoff under mostly cloudy skies and still 62 by the fourth quarter. Just across the river in Phenix City, Central is at 64 and 60. Russell County in Seale sits at 61 and 58.
The southern tier of Georgia counties stays mild all night. Chattahoochee County in Cusseta, Marion County in Buena Vista, Stewart County in Lumpkin, Randolph Clay in Cuthbert, Schley County in Ellaville and Webster County in Preston all start at 65 and settle at 61. Taylor County in Butler and Quitman County in Georgetown run 64 to 60. Harris County in Hamilton and Central-Talbotton are 63 at kickoff and 59 late. Manchester goes from 61 to 58, and down at Eufaula it is 61 and 57.
What to bring: a light jacket or a hoodie for anyone in LaGrange, Hogansville, Greenville, LaFayette or Valley, where the fourth quarter lands in the mid 50s. A long sleeve is plenty in Columbus, Phenix City, Cusseta and Cuthbert. Nobody needs rain gear, and with the wind under 5 miles an hour the only thing moving the flags tonight will be the band.
Around kickoff → by the fourth quarter, on each school’s own clock.
