What is the weather for high school football games Friday night around Columbus and Auburn?
Friday night games across the CNAW area are dry and mostly cloudy with almost no wind, from 75 degrees around kickoff in Columbus to 68 in LaFayette, Valley and Tuskegee, falling into the low to mid 60s by the fourth quarter.

A jacket is going to spend most of tonight folded on the bleacher beside you. Across all 19 counties the sky is mostly cloudy, the rain chance at every school in the viewing area is zero, and the wind is 5 miles an hour or less — in several towns it is dead calm. Temperatures around kickoff run from 68 degrees in LaFayette and Valley to 75 in Columbus.
The interesting number is not the one at kickoff. It is how far the temperature falls while the game is going. In Hogansville, where Callaway plays, it goes from 71 around kickoff to 61 by the fourth quarter, a 10-degree drop in two hours. In Greenville it slides from 70 to 60. In Phenix City, where Central plays, the evening barely moves: 69 to 66. The difference is moisture in the air. West Georgia is dry tonight, with humidity near 51 percent in Columbus and 50 percent in Cusseta, and dry air sheds heat quickly after sunset. Tuskegee sits at 73 percent and Clayton at 76 percent, and that damp air hangs onto its warmth.
In Columbus — Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone — it is 75 around kickoff and 67 by the fourth quarter. In the stands at Kinnett Stadium or A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium, that is short-sleeve weather from the opening whistle to the end.
Around LaGrange, where LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy play, it will be 72 around kickoff and 63 late. Manchester goes 71 to 62, Harris County in Hamilton 72 to 64, and Greenville, at 60, has the coolest fourth quarter anywhere in the area.
The coolest kickoffs are in east Alabama. LaFayette and Chambers Academy in LaFayette, and Valley and Beulah in Valley, all start near 68 and settle to 62. Lanett is the exception on that side of the river: Lanett and Springwood begin at 73, 5 degrees warmer than their neighbors, and finish at 64.
Auburn and Lee-Scott hold 70 to 65. Opelika and Beauregard go 69 to 64, Smiths Station and Glenwood 70 to 65, Loachapoka and Notasulga 69 to 66. Booker T. Washington in Tuskegee starts at 68 with calm air and only reaches down to 65. Russell County in Seale runs 70 to 64, Eufaula 70 to 64 and Barbour County in Clayton 69 to 64, the last two with no wind at all.
Southwest Georgia stays the warmest. Chattahoochee County in Cusseta, Marion County in Buena Vista, Schley County in Ellaville and Webster County in Preston all sit at 75 around kickoff and 66 late. Stewart County in Lumpkin goes 74 to 66, Taylor County in Butler 74 to 65, Central-Talbotton 73 to 64, Quitman County in Georgetown 73 to 66, and Randolph Clay in Cuthbert has the warmest fourth quarter in the area at 67.
Leave the umbrella in the car. Bring a hoodie if you are sitting in LaGrange, Hogansville, Greenville, Manchester, LaFayette or Valley, where you will want it by the second half. Everywhere else, a long-sleeve shirt is plenty, and with the wind this light the flags on the fence will hardly move all night.
Around kickoff → by the fourth quarter, on each school’s own clock.
No school or town by that name in the viewing area.
