What to do
Plan ahead
Any address, any day. Up to 9 days out, it’s our forecast. Further out, an extended forecast from 30 years of weather here.
Our automated weather channel is on the air around the clock: the radar, the temperatures, the week ahead — and when a warning hits the Valley, it stays with the storm.
Will it frost this weekend in Columbus and east Alabama?
Widespread frost is not expected around Columbus, but Birmingham forecasters have medium confidence in frost or a freeze across large parts of central and east Alabama Saturday night into Sunday morning and again Sunday night into Monday morning, with lows in the low to mid 30s.

Step outside in Columbus right now and the air still has summer in it. The dew point sits at 71 degrees, and air that damp holds onto heat and moisture, which is why a 73-degree afternoon feels heavier than the thermometer suggests. That ends over the next 24 hours.
The cold front that dropped heavy rain on north Georgia has been crawling east all day, and the Chattahoochee Valley gets the tail end of it. Tonight carries a 27 percent chance of a shower or a rumble of thunder with a low near 62. The Storm Prediction Center has no severe weather areas drawn anywhere today or tonight, and forecasters at Peachtree City do not expect meaningful new rainfall totals, because drier air is already moving in behind the front.
That damp air leaving has one side effect worth planning around. The Birmingham office flags low to medium chances of patchy dense fog in valleys and along rivers late tonight into early Friday morning. If your drive takes you along the Chattahoochee or through the low ground around Valley, LaFayette and Tuskegee, give yourself extra time. The sun does not come up until just after 7 these mornings.
Friday itself stays warm, with a high near 78 in Columbus, six degrees above the normal high of 72 for the date. Then the weekend turns genuinely like November: 71 and sunny Saturday, 73 Sunday, with afternoon humidity dropping into the 30s and 40s and rain chances near zero straight through midweek.
The nights are the story. Birmingham forecasters have medium confidence in frost or a freeze across large portions of central Alabama Saturday night into Sunday morning, and again Sunday night into Monday morning, with lows in the low to mid 30s. On the Georgia side, Peachtree City does not expect widespread frost, though higher ground such as the Pine Mountain ridge above Hamilton and Warm Springs could come close to trouble for tender plants.
If you have peppers, basil or potted plants still out in the rural spots of Lee, Chambers and Macon counties, Saturday evening is the time to cover them or bring them in. One clear, calm night this time of year does what a week of cool afternoons cannot.
