    Why it is doing this

    The barometer is down 1.7 millibars in six hours. Falling pressure means air is being lifted somewhere close by, and lifted air is what builds cloud and, eventually, rain.

    The wind is out of the northwest at about 8 miles an hour, so the air over us is coming down out of the continent behind a front, which is the driest air we get.

    The dew point is only 44. Dry air swings hard both ways: warm by afternoon, and a good deal colder by dawn than the forecast number suggests.
