A Fort Mitchell man has died in a crash that occurred as he was being pursued by officers earlier this week, state law enforcement officials say.

The single-vehicle crash, involving a 2015 Dodge Challenger, occurred on Fontaine Road at 6th Place South, when the challenger left the roadway, struck a tree and overturned. The driver of the Challenger, identified as Trevor L. Woods, 23, was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

“Prior to the crash, Woods was attempting to elude law enforcement and was being pursued by an officer with the Phenix City Police Department,” state law enforcement said.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
