An Eufaula man has been arrested in connection with the death of a missing teen after authorities confirmed the identity of human remains recovered earlier this month.
According to a press release from the Eufaula Police Department, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences positively identified remains recovered on May 11, 2026, as those of Markavious Rumph Jr.
Following the identification, investigators arrested 19-year-old Josiah Isaiah McKinney of Eufaula for his alleged involvement in the case.

McKinney has been charged with murder, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with physical evidence.
Police said detectives began working the case immediately after Rumph Jr. was reported missing, making contact with his parents on the first day to establish a timeline and identify individuals who may have had information regarding his last known whereabouts.
According to investigators, significant evidence was recovered on the second day of the investigation. Following the positive identification of the remains, that evidence led to McKinney’s arrest.
Authorities said additional interviews are still being conducted and emphasized that certain details cannot be released publicly in order to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The Eufaula Police Department thanked the Barbour County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigation, Troy University, and the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for their assistance with the case.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Eufaula Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 334-687-1200 or the anonymous tip line at 334-687-7100.
