Fire crews extinguish south Russell County camper fire

Fire crews extinguished an early Labor Day morning blaze in south Russell County.

Firefighters from Pittsview and Fort Mitchell volunteer fire departments responded to the scene on Shirley Drive around 12:30 a.m. central standard time on Monday, September 7, 2026.

Firefighters extinguished a fully involved camper fire, while saving a shed-type structure behind it.

“We all arrived as quickly as possible, and worked together, quickly and safely to extinguish,” according to officials with the Pittsview Volunteer Fire Department.

Russell County Sheriff’s Office and CARE Ambulance responded to the scene as well, but thankfully the occupant was able to exit the camper and was uninjured.

Shirley Drive is located in a small residential area off of Highway 165 and Bluff Creek Road.

The investigation into the fire is ongoing.
