How cold will it be at the bus stop Monday morning in Columbus and Auburn?
At 7 AM Monday it should be 58 degrees in Columbus with a 15 mph wind and 60 degrees in Auburn, with the coolest stops at 52 degrees in Hogansville and Greenville and the warmest at 61 in Phenix City and Tuskegee.

Monday morning is a short-sleeves-and-a-hoodie kind of start across west Georgia and east Alabama, and the thermometer is not what will decide how it feels. Rain chances at 7 AM run from 4 to 8 percent at every stop in the viewing area, so umbrellas can stay by the door. The wind is the thing to dress for.
The coolest corners are at the north end. In Hogansville, where Callaway draws its students, and in Greenville, it is 52 degrees at 7 AM with a 10 mph wind and mostly cloudy skies. Around LaGrange, home to LaGrange, Troup County and LaGrange Academy, it is 54 degrees. Manchester is also 54, but with a 15 mph wind that will make it feel closer to the Hogansville number.
The middle of the area settles into the mid 50s. Talbotton, where Central-Talbotton is, starts at 55. Hamilton and Harris County, Butler and Taylor County, and Preston and Webster County all begin at 56, with Hamilton and Butler on the breezier side near 15 mph. At 57 degrees are LaFayette and Chambers Academy, Lanett and Springwood, Cusseta and Chattahoochee County, Buena Vista and Marion County, Georgetown and Quitman County, and Ellaville and Schley County.
Columbus starts at 58 degrees, and that is the number for Shaw, Hardaway, Columbus, Spencer, Kendrick, Jordan, Carver, Northside, Calvary Christian, Pacelli and Brookstone. The wind there runs near 15 mph under mostly cloudy skies, so a stop on an open corner will feel cooler than 58. Valley and Beulah, Cuthbert and Randolph Clay, and Lumpkin and Stewart County are also at 58.
The warm end of the map is Alabama and the southern counties. Auburn and Lee-Scott, Opelika and Beauregard, and Eufaula all begin at 60 degrees with a 10 mph wind and partly sunny skies. The warmest stops in the viewing area are 61 degrees: Phenix City and Central-Phenix City, Smiths Station and Glenwood, Seale and Russell County, Tuskegee and Booker T. Washington, Notasulga, Loachapoka, and Clayton and Barbour County. Phenix City and Smiths Station have the stiffer wind of that group, near 15 mph.
There is a sky split worth knowing too. Mornings in Auburn, Opelika, Eufaula, Clayton, Tuskegee, LaFayette, Georgetown and Cuthbert should be partly sunny, while Columbus, Phenix City, LaGrange and most of the Georgia side stay mostly cloudy a while longer under the cool, cloudy air banked in from the northeast.
What kids need: a hoodie or light jacket in Hogansville, Greenville, LaGrange and Manchester, a long-sleeve shirt and a windbreaker on the breezy corners in Columbus, Phenix City and Smiths Station, and nothing extra at all around Auburn, Opelika, Tuskegee and Eufaula.
One thing to plan around: Monday afternoon climbs to about 77 degrees in Columbus. Whatever goes on at the bus stop needs to be something that fits in a backpack by lunchtime.
No school or town by that name in the viewing area.
Forecast: National Weather Service, 7 AM on each town’s own clock — Central in Alabama, Eastern in Georgia.
