What is the weather in Columbus GA today and this week?
Columbus, Georgia should reach about 78 degrees today with a gusty east wind and only a 12 percent rain chance, before showers return Sunday and a 60 percent chance of storms arrives Wednesday.

The wind is the giveaway this morning. At the Columbus Airport, where the official readings for this area are taken, the day started at 60 degrees under a complete deck of cloud with a light breeze out of the northeast and a dew point of 56.
That direction is the signature of what forecasters at Peachtree City call a wedge. High pressure sitting over the Great Lakes is pushing a shallow layer of cool, dense air south along the eastern side of the Appalachians, and when it slides down into Georgia it turns our wind around to the east. Expect it to be noticeable this afternoon from LaGrange and Manchester down through Columbus and Phenix City, sustained around 10 to 15 mph with gusts of 20 to 25.
The air underneath all that cloud is still fairly dry, so a stray sprinkle is the most today is likely to produce. The high in Columbus should reach about 78, four degrees above the normal of 74 for October 31, with a rain chance near 12 percent. Yesterday the city topped out at 80 degrees at 4:25 in the afternoon. The record high for this one calendar date is 90, set in 1984, and nothing close to that is in play. The Storm Prediction Center has no severe thunderstorms forecast anywhere in the country today.
The atmosphere moistens from Sunday on. Sunday's high drops to about 72 with roughly a one-in-three chance of showers, and the better odds tilt toward the western half of the area. Monday and Tuesday look mostly dry and warm in the upper 70s. Wednesday is the day to watch, with a 60 percent chance of showers and storms as a stronger system crosses the country.
One number for gardeners: the soil a couple of inches down is still 68 degrees, warmer than the air was at sunrise. Dirt holds summer's heat long after the air has let it go, so roots around Hamilton, Cuthbert and Opelika are still working in warm ground.
